Trailer Talk: Sing Sing, The Idea Of You, and more!

Sing Sing

This looks wonderful. Apparently, there are actual former inmates in the cast who were a part of the program that this is about. That definitely adds an interesting dynamic. I also like the way this looks. It’s very intimate, but also showcasing the claustrophobia of being stuck in a prison. Don’t know much about the filmmaker here – Greg Kwedar. But I will follow Colman Domingo wherever, the guy is a marvelous talent. Plus, you got Paul Raci from Sound Of Metal, I feel like I haven’t seen much of him since that film. Glad to see him again.

Sing Sing hits theaters on a currently unspecified date in July.

The Idea Of You

Looks cute. I don’t know why, but I kept getting that vibe of like that After series, which is based on a book that apparently started as Harry Styles fan fiction. But that doesn’t seem to be the case here. Though, interestingly enough, the author of the book this is based on is Robinne Lee, an actress who appeared in a couple of the 50 Shades movies, among other things. It honestly looks solid enough, the chemistry seems decent, based on the trailer, so I’ll definitely give this a look. I like a good romance.

The Idea Of You premieres exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on May 2nd.

The Wild Robot

Gotta say, I don’t think I’ve been this excited for a DreamWorks film in a long time. This looks beautiful, I love the colors in particular. I do wish that they could go in a similar approach to Robot Dreams, and be without dialogue, but given there’s an all-star cast attached to this, I doubt they will go that way. Probably too radical for a mainstream family film. But still, I think there’s a lot of potential here, and there’s some great talent involved, so yeah, definitely in for this.

The Wild Robot opens in theaters on September 20th.

The Strangers: Chapter 1

This feels a bit too close to the overall vibe of the first Strangers film, but I can’t help but be excited at the prospect of Renny freaking Harlin doing a en entire horror trilogy that he shot back-to-back. I’ve really enjoyed both prior installments, and I’m really excited to see what this new one brings to the table, even if this trailer doesn’t suggest much new. I imagine it will set things up that will pay off more in the sequels, one of which I believe is also releasing later this year.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 hits theaters on May 17th.

I Saw The TV Glow

I respected We’re All Going To The World’s Fair, but it didn’t really work for me, I found is difficult to connect to. However, this looks like it’s going for similar vibes, but I’m already a lot more emotionally invested and more intrigued by these characters. This looks wonderful and original and weird and hypnotic and I’m digging the music choices – I like that they note the musicians featured in the film at the end, love it when trailers do that. I really love this vibe, and hopefully, this will be as rewarding for me as We’re All Going To The World’s Fair seemed to be for a lot of folks.

Late Night With The Devil

I think I may have already talked about this when the teaser came out, but I don’t remember. Don’t have a lot to say, this looks super cool, and I love seeing David Dastmalchian as a lead, and I’m a bit surprised at how much this seems to partly be about a character study about this guy who will do whatever it takes to keep the show a hit. It’s a great premise, and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.

Late Night With The Devil opens in select theaters on March 22nd before streaming on Shudder starting April 19th.
