Trailer Talk: Run, Big Time Adolescence, and more!

Run

Searching was a film I liked a lot, and I thought it pushed an otherwise underwhelming format to maximum potential. So, while the filmmakers are veering back into traditional storytelling here, I’m still excited to see what they do here. It’s a nifty enough premise, I’m curious if it’s in any way inspired by the Dee Dee Blanchard case from back in 2015. Sarah Paulson is always great, and it looks like she’ll have moments to ham things up, which is always welcome to me.

Run will hit theaters on May 8th.

Big Time Adolescence

Yeah, looks good. I’ve certainly seen a million movies like these, but it’s a genre where formula gives opportunities for revealing greater truths about growing up, and as long as its messaging is honest, I don’t see how it could falter. It also helps that it looks very funny, and I’m surprisingly totally here for Jon Cryer’s bald look, he rocks that better than I anticipated.

Big Time Adolescence will open in select theaters on March 13th before being available on Hulu on March 20th.

Dream Horse

I don’t know if it’s just me, but Toni Collette’s accent seems kinda…off? Maybe it’s just the way it comes off in the trailer, and it’ll feel better in the film, I hope. Otherwise, this looks charming. I can’t say I’m excited to check it out or anything like that, but it looks like it could be a good time.

Endings, Beginnings

I feel like I haven’t seen Shailene Woodley in forever. It’s too bad because she’s very good at what she does, and she clearly hasn’t lost her touch from the little I see here. The film itself seems like a really straightforward love triangle drama, which could be effective, if done well. I haven’t heard much from its festival run, but given the cast, I think it would be worth a shot.

Endings, Beginning will hit select theaters and VOD platforms on May 1st.

Bacurau

This looks really cool. Did not expect that tone shift halfway through, but I am absolutely here for it. What’s not to love about Udo Kier in a villain role? It also presents a side of Brazil that I don’t see too often in movies – at least, the ones that are able to reach audiences here in the States. Dig the spaghetti western vibes. I’m looking forward to this.

Amazing Stories

So, are people in on the whole AppleTV+ train or no? I haven’t been able to get a full view of whether people are into it or not since it doesn’t seem to have the hype or built-in audience that Netflix or even Hulu to a degree has. Either way, this looks amusing enough. I haven’t seen the original show from the 80s, but I think this would be worth checking out, especially for Robert Forster’s final role.

Amazing Stories will begin streaming on AppleTV+ starting March 6th.
