Yes! Finally some footage! And boy, does it not disappoint. I remember first hearing the rumors about Snyder pitching a Star Wars movie that was basically Seven Samurai but set in the Star Wars universe, but to actually see it come to fruition on his own terms as opposed to being held back by the demands of IP, it’s really inspiring, and cool, and thrilling to see. Netflix can be hit and miss with their attempts at franchise building, but I am rooting for this one.
Rebel Moon (the first part) hits Netflix December 22nd.
What a random assortment of actors. Also interesting that Benicio Del Toro co-wrote this. I feel like this guy is due for a directorial debut at some point, but this one is actually the debut of Grant Singer, who is known for music videos. Seems like a fairly straightforward crime thriller, but I do like these kinds of movies, so I’m curious what the angle is with this one, what’s different, cause I’m sure there’s something to it if all these folks are involved.
Reptile hits Netflix on October 6th.
I don’t think I’ve seen anything from Justine Triet, so I don’t know what to expect, but I imagine it’s gonna be something good because this won the Palme d’Or at the most recent Cannes Film Festival, and the trailer itself is really, really good. Very well edited, very uniquely edited. This was on my radar before, but my anticipation for it has definitely grown significantly.
Anatomy Of A Fall opens in select theaters on October 13th before expanding.
This looks great. I need to see more of Rebecca Miller’s filmography. I enjoyed Maggie’s Plan, but that’s all I’ve seen, and I’m really intrigued by the story here, as well as the filmmaking choices here. Surprisingly bold for a film this modest and of this genre. Great collection of actors as well. There’s some funny lines. I’m really sold on it, I can’t wait to see it.
She Came To Me opens in theaters on September 29th.
Nice, I haven’t seen a new film from Pierre Morel since…I think Peppermint, though maybe he’s made a movie since, I just haven’t seen it. I don’t know if he’s done any comedies before, at least, not in his English language output, so that aspect I can see being a bit hit-and-miss, some of the jokes here didn’t do much for me. But aside from some cheap looking muzzle flashes, the action looks solid enough. I like John Cena, so I’m always happy to see him lead an action movie. Not gonna hold my breath, but it looks like it could be fun.
Freelance hits select theaters on October 6th.
This is another debut feature from a music video director, one that also kinda looks like one too, this is from Jacqueline Castel, and I really dig the vibes here. I’m guessing it’s a werewolf story, that’s always fun, the angle that they’re taking looks really intriguing. Haven’t heard much buzz about this from Sundance, but this seems like it might be my cup of tea, so I’ll definitely keep an eye out for it.
My Animal will be released in select theaters and VOD platforms on September 8th.
