Trailer Talk: Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Toy Story 4, and more!

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Yeah, I’m into it. Of course. What else do I need to say that hasn’t already been said. New Tarantino will always have me intrigued, the cast is great, it looks like a lot of fun. I can’t wait to see him use 1969 Hollywood as a playground. Almost feels like the movie he was always meant to make. I hope it delivers.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood hits theaters on July 26th.

Toy Story 4

I don’t know, I’m still not seeing what there is about this that makes it worth revisiting this franchise, which already had a perfect ending with the third one. It doesn’t help that it continues Pixar’s standard formula of two opposite characters being separated from their normal environment and going on a journey to get back. Toy Story has been Pixar’s legacy franchise, so I doubt they’ll ever make one that’s straight up bad, so I won’t bet against this, but I’m still not completely sold yet.

Toy Story 4 opens in theaters on June 21st.

Lucy In The Sky

I’ll be completely honest here. I’ve seen the first season of Fargo, and several episodes of Legion when it first came out, and I’ve come to the conclusion that Noah Hawley just isn’t for me. I get why his work is popular, but I don’t find them particularly engaging on an emotional level, and it seems like he’s far more interested in impressing me on his technical prowess than he is at telling a resonating story. I get that I’m, probably in the minority on this. However, having said that, I really dig this trailer. The story of Lisa Nowak is a fascinating one, and it lends itself to some potentially interesting imagery like what you see here. PLus, with that cast, there’s no way I’m not going to see this.

The release date for Lucy In The Sky has not been announced yet.

The Last Black Man in San Francisco

This looks fascinating. I remember the word on this being really favorable when it premiered at Sundance back in January, and have been curious to see it ever since. It definitely feels like a love letter to the city, and perhaps even showing a side of it we haven’t been shown that much before. It most certainly captures it in a way that I haven’t seen before, it looks stunning. I can’t wait to check it out.

The Last Black Man In San Francisco opens in theaters on June 14th.

Photograph

I talked about a trailer for this before, I’m guessing that was the international version, but this is the domestic trailer, and I don’t have much to add here different from my original thoughts. It looks wonderful, Ritesh Batra is a stellar filmmaker, see The Lunchbox and Our Souls At Night if you haven’t already. I can’t wait for this.

Photograph will release in select theaters on May 17th.

Stranger Things: Season 3

So, I suppose I’m in the minority when it comes to Stranger Things fandom because not only did I vastly prefer Season 2 over Season 1, but I thought the much maligned 7th episode was also one of its very best episodes. I don’t know what the general thoughts on this are by folks, but I really dig this trailer. It’s really well done on all fronts, placing characters first before hinting at the dangers to come. There seems to be a sense of finality to it, so I’m curious if this will end up being the final season. I would prefer they end on a high note, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this turns out. I am excited.

Season Three of Stranger Things will begin streaming on Netflix on July 4th.
