Trailer Talk: On The Rocks, The Binge, and more!

On The Rocks

I forgot Sofia Coppola has a film coming out this year. What a nice surprise when this trailer dropped. This definitely looks and feels like a Sofia Coppola movie, albeit one that seems far more accessible than anything she’s done before. Though, that could just be marketing. I like what I see here. Solid cast. Good lines. Interesting premise. Yeah, I’m on board.

On The Rocks hits select theaters and Apple TV+ on a currently unspecified date in October.

Death On The Nile

I’d make a joke about how me and maybe eight other people are really excited for this, but Murder On The Orient Express mad a ton of money, so clearly there’s an audience for this. Hell, I remember seeing it in a packed house. Granted, it was mostly elderly people, and I doubt it would be advisable for many of those folks to go to a theater right now, but anyway, longwinded way of me saying I really like this, and I’m looking forward to it. The all-star cast is great, it looks lushious, and Branagh will never not be a delightful ham.

Death On The Nile will open in theaters on October 23rd.

The Binge

I’m confused. What’s the point of having a concept like “one day of the year, all drugs and alcohol are legal” when the plot itself is literally no different from most teen party movies? I mean, the thing about teenagers is…they don’t need to be told when they’re allowed to drink and do drugs. If they want to do it, they’ll find a way to do it, and they probably won’t face many obstacles. I don’t get this movie. Maybe there’s more they’re not showing that would have it all make sense. I don’t know, but from what I see here, it feels weirdly out of touch.

The Binge will be available on Hulu on August 28th.

Eternal Beauty

This looks cute. I like the cast here. Sally Hawkins is always great, David Thewils always delivers, you even got Billie Piper, Alice Lowe, and Penelope Wilton. It’s definitely got my attention. Although, I do approach my enthusiasm with caution, since the film does revolve around mental health, and it’s very easy to get things wrong, even with the best intentions. But it does look like a good time.

Eternal Beauty hits VOD platforms on October 2nd.

Bad Hair

I remember being excited for this because I like Justin Simien’s work with Dear White People. However, ever since this premiered at Sundance, the word-of-mouth has been a bit mixed, especially from Black female critics, who I figured would have been the target demo. It’s a bit of a bummer, but I’m still willing to give it a chance. It does look quite entertaining, and I’m curious to see how Simien transitions into the horror genre.

Bad Hair arrives on Hulu on October 23rd.
