Monkey Man
I love basically everything about this. I’m pretty sure this will be my obsession for the next few months. I was very excited to hear about Dev Patel having his directorial debut, but I didn’t expect it to be this full throttle action movie. It’s really exciting, especially given how we don’t often see stories like this with Indian characters. I’m very excited for this, I can’t wait!
Monkey Man hits theaters on April 5th.
Immaculate
Looks interesting. I like these kinds of settings for a horror movie, but I don’t know, something about this seems a bit off. I can’t really put my finger on it. I’m reminded of how Neon also released It Lives Inside last year, which was kind of a junky horror movie with more deeper aspirations. Getting a similar vibe here. Who knows, maybe it’ll turn out really well. I’ll keep an open mind.
Immaculate opens in theaters on March 22nd.
Road House
I love Road House, but I don’t think it’s the kind of movie that’s above a remake. This honestly looks super cool. I love Doug Liman, love Jake Gyllenhaal, the camera work looks super fun, and it’s got a neat tone. It’s also written by two guys who have regularly collaborated with Shane Black, which really intrigues me. Wish this was coming to theaters, but hey, at least I know I’ll be watching the second it’s available.
Road House streams exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on March 21st.
Tuesday
OK, so it’s A Monster Calls, but instead of a parent dying of a disease, it’s the child, and instead of a talking tree dude, it’s a talking parrot. Got it. Cool. I’m honestly not quite sold, I wasn’t even a big fan of A Monster Calls, but I’d love to be wrong. At the very least, I’m sure we’re bound to get a terrific Julia Louis-Dreyfus performance.
Tuesday is set to hit theaters this summer on a currently unspecified date.
Ricky Stanicky
Man, I miss when movies like this would get a theatrical release. But comedies don’t seem to have much of a place there anymore, which is sad because when a good comedy hits, the energy can be infectious. This has a pretty fun premise, and looks delightfully silly. I feel like some of these actors have kinda moved beyond doing movies like this, but hey, it looks like they’re having a good time, so who am I to judge? I’ll definitely be checking this out. Could be a good time.
Ricky Stanicky will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on March 7th.
Lovely, Dark, And Deep
This looks cool. I feel like the woods are an often underutilized horror setting even though many horror films have sequences with them or incorporate that environment. And it’s usually not the woods itself that is the source of the scares, unlike here. I dug Georgina Campbell in Barbarian, and it looks like she’ll deliver another solid performance here. Also, interesting to see both collaborators on The Wind breaking out. This is the feature directorial debut of the writer of The Wind, Teresa Sutherland. This is coming after the director of The Wind, Emma Tammi, made a big splash with Five Nights At Freddy’s. Very curious to see what Sutherland has to offer.
Lovely, Dark, And Deep hits select theaters and VOD platforms on February 22nd.
