Trailer Talk

Trailer Talk: MaXXXine, Babes, and more!

MaXXXine

Man, this looks so good. I loved X, and Pearl, and I lived how each of them are so different. This feels like classic sleazy 80s neo-noir, and it looks quite ambitious. Ti West is really going for it here, and I can’t wait to see what we get. If he pulls this off, this might legitimately be one of the finest film trilogies ever made. So pumped for this.

MaXXXine hits theaters on July 5th.

Babes

Looks good! I feel like Ilana Glazer was sort of set up to be this rising comedy star, and it didn’t quite happen. So, it’s cool to see her again. Also, this is directed by Pamela Adlon, who I love. I think she’s fantastic, and I can see this kind of material being right in her wheelhouse. We don’t get a ton of comedies in theaters these days, so I’m glad that Neon is at least trying to pick things up by putting this out there. I can’t wait to see it.

Babes will be released in theaters on May 17th.

Fly Me To The Moon

This is a really fun idea, part high concept historical fiction, part rom-com. This feels like the kind of movie we used to get a lot of back in the day, but now, it feels like such a breath of fresh air. The only Greg Berlanti movie I’ve seen is Love, Simon, which I liked, and this looks like it fits with his general vibe. I like the way this is looking, I’ll definitely check this out.

Fly Me To The Moon opens in theaters on July 12th.

Janet Planet

This looks nice, a solid little coming-of-age drama that seems to touch on the experience of being grown as much as it does about growing up. It’s got a solid collection of actors involved. I’m not familiar with Annie Baker, apparently she’s a playwright, and I can see some of that influence here. Not in a bad way though. It looks very promising, I’ll be keeping an eye out for it.

Janet Planet opens in theaters on June 21st.

Turtles All The Way Down

I liked The Fault In Our Stars well enough, and I thought Paper Towns was decent, I haven’t read any of John Green’s books, so I don’t know how faithful any of these were, but he seems to have a strong grasp on telling stories about young people trying to find their own way despite messy interior lives. I’m curious about this one cause I took a gander at the comments, and there were a bunch that were talking about how people unfamiliar with the book are going to be in for a surprise because there’s apparently a whole other major element of the story not advertised in the trailer. Curious. I like Isabela Merced a lot, so I’m mainly in this for her. So, we’ll see what this has in store.

Turtles All The Way Down will stream exclusively on Max on May 2nd.

The Last Stop In Yuma County

This looks really fun. Like a less serious Hateful Eight. It’s a fun setup for sure, and I like the actors assembled here, especially Jim Cummings. I don’t know much about this director Francis Galluppi, but this trailer is well done, and it looks like a good time, so I’m definitely in for the ride.

The Last Stop In Yuma County hits select theaters and VOD platforms on May 10th.

Thoughts on any of the trailers? Feel free to discuss in the comments!
