Trailer Talk

Trailer Talk: Land, The Little Things, and more!

Land

This looks very interesting, especially as Robin Wright’s directorial debut. I feel like this trailer gives a pretty good look at exactly the kind of movie this is, which is a type I’ve certainly seen before, and it could really go either way, it could end up being really powerful and effective, or it could end up hollow and self-indulgent. I’m giving Wright the benefit of the doubt here because I love the look of it, and I imagine there must have been something about this project that attracted her to it. I’ll be keeping an eye out for this.

Land hits theaters on February 12th, 2021.

The Little Things

I haven’t really been into a lot of John Lee Hancock’s work, but I guess if he’s gonna tempt me with a serial killer movie, I guess I’ll bite. Plus, when you got someone like Denzel Washington as your disposal, how could I resist? It looks like fairly standard procedural stuff, but I dig these kinds of stories in general. I don’t have high expectations, but I hope it’s good.

The Little Things opens in theaters and HBO Max on January 29th, 2021.

Coming 2 America

I haven’t seen the original Coming To America since I was a kid, so I’ll definitely need a refresher watch before this. This is a cute little teaser, and it’s nice seeing all these folks back, as well as the new faces they’re bringing in. It’s directed by Craig Brewer, who previously collaborated with Eddie Murphy on the excellent Dolemite Is My Name, and if this is anywhere near as good, this might be something special.

Coming 2 America hits Amazon Prime Video on March 5th, 2021.

Palmer

Justin Timberlake has done some solid stuff in supporting roles in the past, but I haven’t been particularly impressed by any of his performances as a lead. Even after seeing the trailer, I’m not totally convinced. On top of that, this is from Fisher Stevens, yes, that Fisher Stevens, and he had previously only directed comedies and documentaries. This would be his first drama, and some of it is coming across as heavy handed, but that could just be the trailer. I’m willing to give this a chance, but I’m not expecting much.

Palmer will be available on Apple TV+ on January 29th, 2021.

Wrong Turn

I never got sucked into the Wrong Turn series. I think it never really appealed to me, so I can’t say I’m all that invested in a reboot – though, some elements of this trailer kind of implies it might be a stealth sequel, whether it counts all six in the series or not, I don’t know. It’s a fairly basic slasher trailer, complete with the annoying slowed down song, this time sung by a child. It’s from the writer of the original, so it could be interesting in that regard, otherwise I’ve never heard of this so-called acclaimed director, Mike P. Nelson. I’m more curious to see how fans react to this, if they dig it, I might start looking into this series.

Wrong Turn will play in theaters for a one-night Fathom Events screening on January 26th, 2021.

Fear Of Rain

This trailer is giving me nothing. Not sure why they’d bother with a teaser to a smaller studio that looks so disposable, and one that’s coming out in a couple months anyway. So, a girl thinks she might be hallucinating stuff, and…that’s pretty much it. I wonder what the deal is with Katherine Heigl. Granted, I have liked Madison Iseman in all the films I’ve seen her in, so I’m sure she’ll be a perfectly fine lead. However, as a trailer, even as a teaser, this just isn’t going much for me.

Fear Of Rain hits VOD platforms and home media on February 16th, 2021.
