Trailer Talk

Trailer Talk: Kajillionaire, Chemical Hearts, and more!

Kajillionaire

Miranda July is one of those filmmakers I’ve been meaning to catch up on since I hear her work is quite distinct and interesting. This trailer looks like it might the closest thing to a mainstream film as she has made yet, but it still has those qualities that I hear her films have. I’m gonna try and check out her previous work because I dig the vibe of this trailer quite a bit. Everything Evan Rachel Wood is doing here looks incredibly inspired. This is one I’m gonna keep a close eye on.

Kajillionaire is set to hit theaters on September 18th.

Chemical Hearts

Not sure what the problem is. Is it just that she has to use a cane? Is that it? Seems to look a bit overblown to me, but I’m sure there’s more to it than the trailer is letting on. This is from the guy who made Southside With You, which I haven’t seen, but I have liked Lili Reinhart and Austin Abrams in everything I’ve seen them in. I wish the trailer gave a better sense at what the hook is supposed to be aside from generic teen angst, but I tend to enjoy these films anyway, so I’ll give it a shot.

Chemical Hearts will hit Amazon Prime on August 21st.

The Pale Door

It certainly looks like they’re stretching every dollar they got for what its worth, but I dig the premise, and I really like a bunch of these cast members. Horror-westerns is a really underrated subgenre, and it’s honestly surprising that it isn’t tapped into more. The last really memorable one that seemed to get everyone’s attention was Bone Tomahawk, and that was a while ago. If this turns out good, I hope it inspires more filmmakers to explore this kind of territory.

The Pale Door will be released in select theaters and VOD platforms on August 21st.

After We Collided

Remember After? I don’t, I didn’t see it, though I was aware that it was literally an adaptation of a book that originated as One Direction fan fiction. Apparently, it made enough money to warrant a sequel, one that also features the book’s author as a co-writer. I don’t really have much of an opinion on this, it seems like it was designed top to bottom to get strong reactions from people who are already fans. I doubt I’ll see this, but if you are, I hope it doesn’t disappoint.

After We Collided will hit select theaters and VOD platforms on October 2nd.

We Are Who We Are

I’ve really enjoyed most of what I’ve seen from Luca Guadagnino. The only ones I haven’t seen are his work prior to A Bigger Splash, and I’ve been meaning to catch up. You can definitely feel his touch here. While it doesn’t give a large sense of what exactly is driving some of this drama, it makes a strong impression. I’m very picky with what TV I watch, but I will probably check this out. It certainly helps that it’s an 8 episode limited series, so it’s not gonna demand too much of my time.

We Are Who We Are will premiere on HBO on September 14th.
