Trailer Talk

Trailer Talk: Isn’t It Romantic, The House That Jack Built, and more!

Isn’t It Romantic

This looks really fun! At first, I wasn’t sure if the whole skewering of rom-com tropes would work, especially after something like They Came Together, but this looks like it’s bringing a different angle to it. The genre has been getting a bit of a resurgence recently, mostly on Netflix, with films like Crazy Rich Asians, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, and several others, so I guess it’s only natural that along with that, we get the few movies that take the piss out of the genre. I found this trailer surprising, so I’m definitely hoping it’s good.

Isn’t It Romantic hits theaters on February 14th, 2019.

The House That Jack Built

I’m at a point where I don’t actively look forward to anything by Lars von Trier, not just because he has a long history of being an ass, but after the story about what he did to Björk came out, I’m struggling to get excited for anything he has. That said, this is a good trailer. Stuff like this would normally be my jam, but I’m not sure how to feel with Trier behind the camera, knowing how extreme he tends to go. I admit, I’m curious, but it’s not something I’m anticipating.

The House That Jack Built will open in select theaters and VOD platforms on December 14th.

Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral

Honestly, I haven’t seen any of the Madea movies, so I don’t really have much of an opinion on this. I’ve seen other Tyler Perry movies, and while I’ve enjoyed some (like the recent Acrimony), I can’t say I’m particularly impressed by his filmmaking. This looks pretty cheap and just not my thing overall. I know these movies have an audience, so I hope they enjoy it, though I am curious why Perry is ending it here.

Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral will release in theaters on March 1st, 2019.

Spies In Disguise

Gotta say, after seeing that cool intro with Will Smith’s character, I did not expect the trailer to take the turn it did. Spy being turned into a bird? That’s definitely original. I don’t know much about this, but Blue Sky Studios has made stuff I liked before, and I’m into spy stuff, so this is one I’m really curious about.

Spies In Disguise will open in theaters September 13th, 2019.
