Here

It’s so easy to hate on Robert Zemeckis, but I’m honestly here for it. I like the concept a lot. Less of a fan of the de-aging, but I’ll get over it. I like that he’s still willing to indulge and experiment, even if it doesn’t ultimately work. That spirit got us a lot of classics. I don’t know if this will become a new classic, but I’m always down for whatever Zemeckis brings.

Here hits theaters on November 15th.

Skincare

This looks pretty interesting. I have zero clue what true story this might be referring to, but the setting and culture that it revolves around can definitely lead to some fun and twisty drama. Plus, I feel like it’s been a while since we got Elizabeth Banks a starring vehicle, and she’s great. I’m definitely curious about this.

Skincare opens in theaters on August 16th.

The Union

Looks alright. I feel like I’ve seen a million movies just like this, with the same basic concept, the same basic tone, and overall vibe. I don’t see what new this is bringing to the table. But what I will say is that this cast is pretty stacked. It could be a fun time, but it could also be generic as hell. With Netflix, you never know until you see it.

The Union will premiere exclusively on Netflix starting August 14th.

The Front Room

I wasn’t sure about this at first, but by the time we got to the second half of the trailer, I was definitely won over. This looks delightful and deranged. I can see this being a lot of fun, and that’s usually not the mode we see with these A24 horror films. But I’m ready for a change of pace.

The Front Room will be released in theaters on September 6th.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man

You know, if it didn’t look like it was shot in someone’s backyard, and it was filmed with some style, some contrast and shadows, literally anything to add atmosphere, this could be really good. I think it’s wild that we managed to get three whole incarnations of the Hellboy character  and I never knew this one was even a thing. I like the small scale horror approach, but man  it is visually just not interesting at all.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man opens in theaters at a currently unspecified date later this year.

Bando Stone & The New World

OK, looks pretty interesting. At first, I thought this would be like one of those movies like that one Kanye West movie or the Beyoncé one that went on Disney+ where there isn’t much of a narrative, but this looks like an actual movie. And a pretty fun one at that. I’m not necessarily as deep on Glover’s work outside of stuff like Atlanta, but I’ll give this a shot.

Bando Stone & the New World hits IMAX theaters on a currently unspecified date later this year.
