This looks very cute and sweet. I like the way this explores the father-daughter bond in a manner we don’t see too often. I can’t imagine it’s doing much more than touching on the whole idea of art being a way to explore your inner truths and whatnot, which is pretty well worn territory, but it looks like a very earnest and solid take on that kind of message. I know it’s directed by the team behind Saint Frances, which I liked, so I’m curious to see more of their work.
Ghostlight hits select theaters on June 14th.
I’m happy to see Lily Gladstone appear in so many projects as of late. She’s a real talent. I just hope that not all of them revolve around Indigenous tragedies. Not that those stories shouldn’t be told, they definitely should, and this film looks very good, but it’s starting to be an unfortunate typecast, in my opinion. I just think she has the range to do a lot more. Still, very much looking forward to whatever she’s in.
Fancy Dance will open in select theaters on June 21st before streaming exclusively on Apple TV+ on June 28th.
I’m getting very slight Everything Is Illuminated vibes from this. The road trip, the family stories, the connections to the Holocaust, the humor. Doesn’t look bad, but it does seem to be in very familiar territory. But you do have reliable performers here. I haven’t seen anything from Julia von Heinz, who appears to have only done German productions prior to this, so I don’t know what to expect. Hope it’s good.
Treasure opens in theaters on June 14th.
Man, that gas station bit is too real. This looks fine, I suppose. I recall having a pretty decent time in all the Despicable Me movies, but I don’t really remember much from them when trying to look back. I think Trey Parker voiced the villain in the 3rd one. I think there was a prequel at one point, or was that one of the Minions movies? I’m sure this will be a fun time, Illumination has their formula down to a science.
Despicable Me 4 hits theaters on July 3rd.
I heard a lot of really good things about this from its festival run, so I’m excited that this is finally coming out for everyone to see. I know it’s been quite controversial, especially in Poland, who seemed to have not taken the film’s critiques of their government very well. I’m really looking forward to this, and I can’t wait to check it out.
Green Border opens in select theaters starting June 21st.
Looks good. I feel like a lot of the stories we have seen about the trans experience either don’t address or simply superficially address the sometimes awkward phase between friends when the other person has to come to terms with this big change, whether it was expected or not. It can be weird seeing someone you once knew a very specific way, only for them to come into your life looking very different, and while they are certainly the same person, there’s still aspects to their state-of-being that is fundamentally different and can impact friendships, and I like that this film seems to be exploring that. I’m really curious to see how it explores all this.
Summer Solstice opens in select theaters starting June 14th.
