Furiosa

Fury Road has become one of my all-time favorites, and I was obsessively watching the marketing material as we went up to its release. And the same is happening here, I lost count on how many times I’ve seen this trailer since it popped up. I think it looks fantastic. The handful of complaints about “CGI” in this are genuinely baffling because it looks just as well integrated as it was in Fury Road, and that movie wasn’t even the most seamless in certain parts. It’s not like it detracted from the experience. Very strange to see. Anyways, this is my most anticipated film of 2024, and it’s a big year for movies, so you know that means a lot. Very excited.

Furiosa hits theaters on May 24th, 2024.

I.S.S.

This is such a fun concept, but also one that feels weirdly outdated. Not in the sense that there would be conflict between US and Russian characters, but in the sense that it will inevitably result in violence, especially considering these are highly trained scientists. It’s like a genre movie that would’ve come out in the 90s or something, and on that level, yeah, it looks fun. I haven’t seen any of Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s narrative work, I know she’s an established documentary filmmaker, but this is definitely her biggest, most genre oriented, and effects heavy film to date. I’m very curious to see how it turns out.

I.S.S. opens in theaters on January 19th, 2024.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

They’ve gone full cuckoo-bananas, I love it so much. And I’m so glad that not only Adam Wingard is back directing, but he is also bringing his old collaborator Simon Barrett with him, with some good old Dan Stevens as a cherry on top too. I was really hoping that after doing the first film, Wingard would tap into his personal, more weirder, and sly sensibility that has been featured in his horror work for this film, and it looks like that is absolutely the direction they’re going. I’m so excited.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will be released in theaters on April 12th, 2024.

The End We Start From

Interesting, it kind of looks like a part romance, part disaster movie, part character study. I’m very intrigued. And I know Jodie Comer is up for the challenge, she has proven to be quite the talent. I don’t know much about the director, Mahalia Belo, who is making her feature debut here, so I don’t know what to expect, but I am interested, and this trailer is very well done. Definitely keeping this on my radar.

The End We Start From opens in select theaters on December 8th before expanding on January 19th, 2024.

Self Reliance

This is cool, I like this. It’s definitely a fun idea for Jake Johnson’s directorial debut, it really plays to his strengths, and allows him to call for all the favors from his friends as we can see with this cast. It’s a funny concept, and there’s a clear metaphor at play about connecting with people more, but the jokes do seem to work, and the trailer is quite enticing. Very much looking forward to this.

Self-Reliance will stream exclusively on Hulu on January 12th, 2024.

Fallout

I haven’t played any of the Fallout games, so I have no idea what to expect with this. The creative team behind this is certainly legit, and there’s obviously a lot of money put behind it. But I don’t know, it takes a lot for me to really devote the time to watch a show. I don’t know if this looks essential for me personally, but I’m sure fans of the games might find some enjoyment out of this. I would hope, at least.

Fallout will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on April 12th, 2024.
