Expend4bles

This looks like a good time! I’ve liked the Expendable movies, but I’ve never really loved them. They’re a good time, but they all have their own unique faults that hold them back, and each movie has had different issues. Don’t know what to expect with this one, since it is a different creative team. I love the addition of Megan Fox, and of course Iko Uwais and Tny Jaa are gonna bring the heat with the action as well. Can’t say I’m expecting a whole lot, just hope to have a good time. Sad that Antonio Banderas isn’t back, he was a highlight of the previous one.

Expend4bles hits theaters on September 22nd.

Bottoms

Yeah, this looks great. There seemed to be a lot of hype building around this, even in anticipation for the trailer, and I was curious as to why. And then I saw that the director is Emma Seligman, who did Shiva Baby, then I understood. Great movie, really funny, surprisingly tense, and very weird. And looks like some of those qualities will be here as well. There’s some fun ideas, and I’m curious how those ideas will be fleshed out. Very excited to see this.

Bottoms opens in select theaters August 25th before expanding September 1st.

Jagged Mind

So, did a quick little Google search, and apparently there’s a time loop element that this trailer doesn’t make very clear. It doesn’t make much very clear to be honest, just that something is up with this relationship. It does look a bit intriguing, but I’m getting such disposable Netflix original vibes from this. I didn’t realize Hulu had those as well. Guess you gotta get content for your platform somehow. But still, a compelling story can really pull any film through, even if it doesn’t look as slick as something with a higher budget. I might still check this out.

Jagged Mind will premiere exclusively on Hulu on June 15th.

Bird Box Barcelona

I guess Bird Box technically was a hit for Netflix, it did get a lot of streams, according to them. I do wish the movie itself were better. Not sure what to expect from this, but it seems to have a slightly bigger scope, and I hope the change in location allows the filmmakers to make a more interesting dynamic. I haven’t seen any of the films by Àlex Pastor and David Pastor, the only hing I’ve see with their involvement was the Tarsem Singh, Ryan Reynolds joint, Self/less, which they wrote. I didn’t have any strong feelings about that, but hopefully they have something more interesting in store here.

Bird Box Barcelona hits Netflix on July 14th.

Lust Stories 2

I really liked the first Lust Stories a lot, it was a fun and interesting look at modern sexuality in India, and I think there’s definitely potential for more, especially since there seems to be a different set of filmmakers and actors involved. I would honestly recommend that first film to pretty much anyone. It’s quite accessible. I can’t wait to see this one.

Lust Stories 2 hits Netflix on June 29th.

Sympathy For The Devil

I know it’s sort of a thing to be excited for something with Nicolas Cage in it, especially if he’s acting wild, but then never actually follow through on even seeing the damn thing. People seem to like the idea of Nic Cage more than they legitimately like him it seems. I’ve stuck through thick and thin, good and bad, and he almost always brings something worthwhile even to bad material. This actually looks pretty fun, it’ll be nice to see Joel Kinnaman as an average Joe type, and it looks pretty slick. I’ll be keeping my eye out for this one.

Sympathy For The Devil opens in select theaters and VOD platforms on July 28th.
