Trailer Talk: Cuckoo, Unfrosted, and more!

Cuckoo

I really like the vibe of this, it has some really freaky imagery. I looked it up and saw that it was from Tilman Singer, who directed Luz previously. I liked Luz, but didn’t necessarily love it. But this does have me more curious, and I seem to be finding myself more intrigued by what I see here. It’s definitely taking a lot of the more out there and art house-y stylistic choices of that film, and made it a touch more palatable, which might do the trick. I’m looking forward to this.

Cuckoo opens in theaters on August 9th.

Unfrosted

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this, but it wasn’t…this. It’s weird. I don’t think this will be a good movie, but I am very excited to see it. There’s just something so odd about Jerry Seinfeld making his directorial debut this late in his career, and it’s for a movie about Pop-Tarts. But it’s not like these other movies as of late where it explores these companies or products, it takes a more heightened and cartoon-ish approach, which I suppose shouldn’t be surprising considering it’s Seinfeld. I don’t know what to make of it, but I’m definitely gonna see it.

Unfrosted hits Netflix on May 3rd.

Kind Of Kindness

Not much to really dive into here since it’s a pretty short teaser, but I’m always gonna be excited for a new Yorgos Lanthimos movie. I’m also excited to see him return to collaborate with an old…collaborator in Efthymis Filippou, who he wrote a bunch of his earlier films with, pretty much all the way up to The Killing Of A Sacred Deer, which is my personal favorite of his. So, I have a feeling this will have an even darker edge that I think his recent movies kinda lacked – and I don’t mean that in a critical way, I do love The Favorite and I enjoyed Poor Things. But I have a feeling this truly won’t hold back.

Kind Of Kindness opens in theaters on June 21st.

Evil Does Not Exist

What a trailer, starts of like Ken Loach movie and slowly morphs into a David Fincher thriller. I really enjoy the works of Ryusuke Hamaguchi, the few that I’ve seen at least. So, naturally, I’m very pumped to see this one, I’ve been looking forward to it since it was announced. I really dig the vibe of this trailer, the story is interesting. If this is anywhere close to what Drive My Car was, we’re in for a treat.

Evil Does Not Exist opens in select theaters starting May 3rd.

Force Of Nature: The Dry 2

I remember liking The Dry, but I gotta be honest, I haven’t thought much about it since seeing it, and I don’t even remember a whole lot from it. But this does look pretty good as a little mystery. I like me some Eric Bana, and this whole missing-person-but-there’s-something-suspicious-about-the-circumstances case they got going on is intriguing, so I’m definitely up for seeing this. Might even revisit The Dry to see if it actually holds up.

Force Of Nature: The Dry 2 will be available on VOD platforms on May 10th.

Alam

Saw this trailer, and figured I’d put it out there for people to take notice because I think stories from Palestinian artists are needed now more than ever. I’ll absolutely be writing a review for this, and I will be honest about how I feel, because I think it’s something worthwhile, and given all this time, I don’t want people to ever forget that the people there are still struggling and in need of help, and we can’t turn a blind eye to it.

Alam will be released on VOD platforms on April 26th.
