Trailer Talk

Trailer Talk: Conclave, Rob Peace, and more!

Conclave

I didn’t love All Quiet On The Western Front, and I was quite surprised to see the level of Oscar love it received, but I will say Edward Berger is a good filmmaker, and I think this looks really cool. Admittedly, I think it’s mostly because it will scratch an itch that was left behind by The Young Pope, which is a series I really enjoyed. This doesn’t look as fun, but it’s still compelling and the cast is impeccable.

Conclave hits theaters on November 1st.

Red Rooms

I like it when a small genre picture comes out of nowhere, and catches everyone by surprise. It seems like this is going to be one of those kinds of movies based on the word-of-mouth that’s out there right now. Thankfully, this trailer keeps quite a bit of mystery, so I don’t know what to expect, but I’m very excited to find out.

Red Rooms opens in select theaters starting September 6th.

Rob Peace

I believe I recall seeing The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind and thinking it was pretty solid. I haven’t heard of this story, so I took a quick look and basically immediately spoiled myself, but I guess when it comes to movies like these, you know where they tend to go. It’s an unfortunate reality. It doesn’t look bad, I like Chiwetel Ejiofor, and I trust his instincts as an actor and a filmmaker, so I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for this.

Rob Peace hits select theaters on August 16th.

The Killer

I’m always going to be excited for a new John Woo movie, and this was one I was really intrigued by when it was announced. It’s a bummer that this is going straight-to-streaming cause this looks like a ton of fun. I can’t imagine not being able to have the opportunity to see some classic Woo shoot-outs on the big screen. I enjoyed Silent Night more than most, and I’m curious to see how he revisits his old classic and remake it for a new audience and with modern sensibilities in mind.

The Killer streams exclusively on Peacock on August 23rd.

Rebel Moon – The Director’s Cut

I don’t understand what Netflix was thinking releasing these movies in this manner. I truly do not understand why they would shoot themselves in the foot trying to force a recreation of the whole Snyder Cut phenomenon. Why release purposefully not great versions of your movie when you have the actual movie right there? You’re Netflix, your whole thing is that you let filmmakers do whatever. I’m sorry, the trailer’s good, I’m actually excited to see this. I’m just really frustrated about this whole release strategy.

Rebel Moon – The Director’s Cut premieres exclusively on Netflix on August 2nd.

The Deliverance

Lee Daniels doing an exorcism themed horror film was not something I’d expect from him. His filmography is very hit-and-miss, but the guy at least goes for it most of the time. And I don’t really think I’ve seen a horror movie like this take place in this kind of community, so that does bring something fresh that I hope they explore and dive into. Consider me cautiously optimistic.

The Deliverance hits Netflix on August 30th.
