Trailer Talk: Bullet Train, Master, and more!

Bullet Train

David Leitch has done some solid work since departing from the John Wick movies, I really dug Atomic Blonde, I enjoyed the second Deadpool more than the first, and this was one of my most anticipated films of the year. This trailer does not disappoint. I didn’t expect to see such a comedic vibe here, and I’m happy it has it. It gives it a unique feel. Love how vibrant it is, the ensemble is killer, the action looks great. Can’t wait to see it.

Bullet Train hits theaters on July 15th.

Master

OK, this looks interesting. Out of all the post-Get Out “social horror” films that have come out recently, this one looks the most promising and intriguing. I dig Regina Hall, the atmosphere looks interesting, and I think it has a lot of potential with the location. There’s definitely some meaty material when it comes to these old colleges that are ripe for horror, whether socially conscious or not. I believe this screened at Sundance, but I did not look into what the word-of-mouth was, so I’ll be going into this fairly blind.

Master will be released on Amazon Prime Video on March 18th.

Umma

Weirdly enough, the first thing I took note of was “Raimi Productions,” which is apparently a totally separate production house from Ghost House Pictures, the other production company that Sam Raimi founded. I’m just learning about this, and I wonder why he felt the need to make another one since Ghost House is still active. Anyway, sorry for that tangent, this looks fun! I’m curious at the history of this thing cause Sony only decided to put this in theaters just a week or so ago, and they set it for two weeks from now. It has a solid enough premise, and Sandra Oh is a good actor, so while this seems like a pretty straightforward ghost story, it could potentially be really well done.

Umma hits theaters on March 18th.

The Innocents

I wasn’t that into Thelma, I felt it played too coy with its genre influences, as if it was afraid to get a little weird or goofy or indulge in the more genre-oriented stuff. This looks a bit different though, it seems like there’s actually a lot more going on, and with a cast of mainly children, it adds a really interesting layer to the proceedings, adds more stakes so to speak. It looks very intriguing, so I’m actually very curious about this one.

The Innocents opens in select theaters and VOD platforms on May 13th.

Infinite Storm

This is from Polish filmmakers, Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert. This isn’t their first English film, the former directed The Other Lamb and the latter did the cinematography for the film. I gotta say, this looks like a pretty straightforward survival film, and I’m curious what made them want to tackle this project, especially as an English language production. Either way, it does look good, and Naomi Watts is a reliable performer. Can’t say I’ll hold my breath for this one, but I’ll definitely check it out.

Infinite Storm hits theaters on March 25th.
