Trailer Talk: Blue Beetle, Hypnotic, and more!

Blue Beetle

Yeah, this looks pretty cool. I know pretty much nothing about Blue Beetle, aside from what little I saw of him in the Justice League animated show from way back. I like the tone here, it does seem to skew slightly young, but still having a bit of edge. That first transformation sequence is pretty gnarly. Don’t know what else to expect here, I think we get like a single shot of the villain, but it’s just a dude’s face for a second, but otherwise, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed.

Blue Beetle hits theaters on August 18th.

Hypnotic

You know what, hell yes. I am so in on this. One, I love me a weird high concept sci-fi flick, and when you add some Robert Rodriguez on top of all that, I am sold. Especially since this looks like the good Robert Rodriguez, not the Machete Kills kind. It definitely looks like the most straight he’s played a film, nothing tongue-in-cheek or darkly funny or otherworldly, aside from the general premise. I can see how this could go south, but I’m ready for something wild, and that’s what I expect from Rodriguez.

Hypnotic opens in theaters on May 12th.

Extraction 2

You know, I was overall fine with Extraction, though I did have my criticisms. After seeing this teaser, I’m all in. This looks amazing, like they amped up everything about the first one. And I’m very happy that Sam Hargrave is back in the director’s chair, it looks like he’s really challenging himself and his crew to go bigger than before, and I am really digging the approach. Who knows how the movie itself will end up, but I am definitely way more excited than I thought I would be.

Extraction 2 will premiere on Netflix on June 16th.

Barbie

Another teaser, but with more of a glimpse at the characters and the world, and I gotta say, I am loving the vibe. I’m reminded of something like Speed Racer, another film that wholly embraced the artifice of the original property’s aesthetics, and it looks like Gerwig is basically doing the same thing here. These sets are mesmerizing. Most of the cast looks great, the jokes are hitting, I can’t wait to see what Greta Gerwig has in store.

Barbie hits theaters on July 21st.

Migration

Not much to get into here. A fairly short teaser for the upcoming Illumination film. Looks like it could be interesting. I’m kinda surprised a kids film about birds during migration hasn’t been done yet. I’m sure there is gonna be some theme around found family or something and working together or whatever. Could be cute. We’ll see when there’s more footage released.

Migration opens in theaters on December 22nd.

Secret Invasion

Honestly, any show that revolves around Samuel L. Jackson is a show that is worth looking at. While I don’t think any of the MCU shows have been great all the way through, there are bits and moments that I really enjoyed. I haven’t seen Mr. Robot, but this is from the same creator, and it looks like he’s going to bring a somewhat similar vibe. Probably closer to what the tone people were most expecting with Falcoln And The Winter Soldier. I’ll definitely check this one out.

Secret Invasion hits Disney+ starting June 21st.
