Atlantics
This somehow fell under my radar when I was reading about the various festival releases, but I’m glad this is coming to something like Netflix because this looks really intriguing. Not a whole lot else to comment on. If it’s as great as people say, I look forward to it, and whatever this filmmaker does next.
Atlantics hits select theaters on November 15th before releasing on Netflix on November 29th.
Earthquake Bird
I have no idea what’s going on here, but this is from Wash Westmoreland, who was behind Still Alice and Colette, both of which I liked, though I haven’t seen his other work yet. It seems like one of those 90s erotic thrillers, but it’s only hinting at the erotic element. I don’t know what to expect here, but I like these actors, so I’m sure this will be worth checking out.
Earthquake Bird will open in select theaters on November 1st before releasing on Netflix on November 15th.
The Turning
Yeah, looks fine, if a bit typical. I’m mostly interested because it’s directed by Floria Sigismondi, who wrote and directed The Runaways, though she did not write this. I also like the cast here, I’m especially happy seeing Brooklynn Prince get more work. Though, if I’m being honest, I’m a little Finn Wolfhard’d out, not that it’s his fault, it’s just that he seems to be the “it” kid right now. Some of the stuff here is grabbing me, but who knows, it’s hard to tell with trailers like these. I hope it’s a pleasant surprise.
The Turning opens in theaters on January 24th, 2020.
Mickey And The Bear
Yup, I’m sold. As soon as I saw James Badge Dale, it had me. The guy is one of my favorite working actors right now, and he always brings it, even though he tends to play smaller roles. The setup certainly gives him more to do than I’ve seen from him before, and I’m looking forward to see how he works with it. Hadn’t heard of this movie until I started writing about it now, but this is one I’m looking forward to seeking out.
Mickey And The Bear opens in select theaters starting November 13th before expanding on November 29th.
I Lost My Body
A weird animated movie that isn’t aimed at kids? Honestly, that’s all I need to know to get sold on it. I’m always into seeing more experimental animation from western filmmakers, and this definitely looks like something unique. This is definitely something I’m very excited for.
I Lost My Body hits select theaters on November 15th before being made available on Netflix on November 29th.
White Snake
Another animated film for today’s Trailer Talk, and this looks really cool as well. I honestly don’t think I’ve seen a fully 3D CG animated film from Japan before, though I’m sure there have been many, I simply haven’t gotten to any. Still, this looks stunning, and it seems to be more family oriented, but that’s fine. I dig the look and the designs and the action. This has my curiosity.
White Snake will open in LA on November 15th before hitting select theaters on November 29th.
Light From Light
Well, this has shown up out of nowhere and shot of my anticipation list. I love this. Like with Atlantics, I love me a good ghost story, but I especially have a fond for ghost stories that aren’t horror films. This is precisely my jam, and it’s cool seeing Jim Gaffigan slowly make a transition into drama the past few years. I can’t wait to see this.
Light From Light opens in select theaters on November 1st before expanding on November 8th.
Tell Me Who I Am
I’m reminded of the recent documentary Three Identical Strangers when I saw this trailer. I wasn’t as big a fan of that doc as many others were, and that was mostly because I felt it had little else of substance going for it beyond the superficial thrills of discovering dark secrets of people you don’t know. I’m kinda worried this will be in the same vein, but it does look well crafted as far as a documentary goes. I will give it a shot though.
Tell Me Who I Am will be released on Netflix on October 18th.
