SDCC Trailer Talk: Titans

Well, San Diego Comic-Con has kicked off, and it looks like us heathens who couldn’t go finally got our first taste of something to come…and it’s setting quite the mood for the rest of the convention.

The upcoming DC streaming service has a lot of shows lined up, and they finally unveiled a trailer for one of their more anticipated ones, Titans! And, well, you should, uh, take a look:

No, that wasn’t a parody or the live-action recreation of this bit from Teen Titans Go! Nope, this is the show.

Honestly, it is kind of interesting to see how Akiva Goldsman, the writer of Batman And Robin, pulls off a gritty take on material he’s previously adapted. It’s just like Martin Campbell directing both GoldenEye and Casino Royale, except if they both sucked.

Well, if the internet is anything to go by, it looks like the show’s attempt to take itself very seriously has mostly backfired, and quite spectacularly so. This thing might be fun to watch as a trainwreck if the whole thing is like this, but I have a feeling that a lot of this is going to be angsty teens talking in a very monotone voice in dark rooms for long periods of time. You tend to see a pattern with these things.

So, yeah, this is not looking particularly promising, and it’s definitely not a great first impression for what we should expect from the other shows coming to the streaming service. I’m gonna keep my fingers crossed that Swamp Things is actually good.

So, any thoughts on the trailer? Do you like this approach? Whatever it is, feel free to discuss in the comments below!
