Yesterday, while we were all in the middle of Independence Day festivities, Sacha Baron Cohen released this little video on Twitter.

Given that Trump University ceased operations back in 2010, I’m curious what the angle Cohen is going for here, assuming that this is – in fact – an announcement for an upcoming project, which the wording certainly implies. It just feels too specific and purposeful to be a mere troll at the President.
Cohen’s work has admittedly been a case of diminishing returns after the juggernaut of Borat, but there’s always the possibility that he could bring that same energy and honesty and wit that made him such a huge success in the first place. Plus, the idea of him supposedly using this to settle the old “rivalry” from his Ali G Show segment with Trump is pretty funny.
Sacha Baron Cohen has also been somewhat quiet recently. His last major gig was in Alice Through The Looking Glass back in 2016, and his only new credit is a Netflix series, The Spy, set for 2019. It’s also worth noting that his frequent collaborator, Larry Charles, has also been somewhat absent recently, with his latest directorial efforts being two episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm that aired in the fall of 2017. It’s totally feasible that these two might’ve made this project in secret within the past year or so.
I’m certainly curious to see if this pans out to anything, and if it does, I’ll keep you updated as I find out more.
