After the…let’s say “disappointment” of Terminator Genisys, it looks like Tim Miller’s Terminator project (produced by James Cameron) is continuing to move forward with some new casting news. Mackenzie Davis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Linda Hamilton have been confirmed to be in the film for a while, and according to a new report from Deadline, we have Gabriel Luna, Natalia Reyes, and Diego Boneta also joining the cast.
Gabriel Luna is tapped to play a Terminator in the film, perhaps as a villain? The details on these characters have been kept a secret as their still early in the production process.
I’m curious to see what the filmmakers are cooking up here. As bad as Genisys was, the fundamental ideas behind the Terminator franchise are too cool to not be interested to see what they do. The involvement of James Cameron is also a very big deal as he hasn’t really touched this series for over two decades. If he’s coming in as a way to “save this,” I want to see what he has in mind.
I just want to know how much of a “reboot” this is going to be. Genisys was meant to be a reboot in a sense, will this new one ignore that altogether, or use time travel mumbo jumbo to somehow take place in the same (or alternate) timeline? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
The currently untitled Terminator rebootquel will be released on November 22, 2019.
Have any thoughts on the casting? Think the new film will survive the stank of Genisys? Feel free to discuss in the comments!
