First Look And Cast Announcement For Addams Family Animated Movie

As you can see in the image above, we have an animated Addams Family film in the works, which is coming from MGM Studios, and they have announced some pretty exciting cast members to voice the creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky, and all together ooky family.

We have Oscar Issac as Gomez, which is great since that’s pretty much been the fan cast for the longest time. Charlize Theron will play Morticia, Chloë Grace Moretz is Wednesday, Finn Wolfhard will be Pugsley, Nick Kroll is playing Uncle Fester, Bette Midler is Grandmama, and, topping it all off, is recent Academy Award winner, Allison Janey as the villain, Margaux Needler.

That’s a pretty great cast we got here, there’s no doubt about that. On the creative end, the film is written by Matt Lieberman, who was brought on to re-write an existing adaptation already at the studio. And it’s directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, who were the directors of Sausage Party.

I’m honestly not super crazy about the character designs, mostly with Gomez, Wednesday, and Pugsley. It almost looks like it’s bordering on the exaggerated proportioned rubberiness of something like Hotel Transylvania, which works for that series, but I hope they carve out their own identity here. I do like the color scheme, which is more muted than I would’ve expected. I hope the film leans hard on the more macabre influences of the show and the original Charles Addams comics. I also wonder how it will set itself apart from the two Barry Sonnenfeld films, which hold up exquisitely, by the way.

Not a whole lot much to say until we get a trailer, but that won’t be for a while. The Addams Family will be released in theaters on October 11, 2019.

Now, how about that Munsters reboot, huh? I think it’s about time.
