Colin Trevorrow To Helm Third Jurassic World According to Steven Spielberg

Jurassic World was a massive hit, and a sequel will be coming out in a few months. I was not a fan, but it clearly tapped into something. It gave the audience something that I suppose it needed at that point in time. I don’t know if that success will continue with the next one.

But you know who hasn’t had much success since Jurassic World? It’s co-writer, and director, Colin Trevorrow, whose follow-up, 2017’s The Book of Henry, was a critical and commercial disaster. It was also later announced that he was no longer directing Star Wars: Episode IX, and the mysterious circumstances surrounding that hasn’t done him any favors.

So, where does he go from here? Who knows. He said himself back in 2015 that won’t be directing any future Jurassic World installments, so what could he possibly do to put himself back to the top? Another attempt at a small indie maybe?

Not according to Steven Spielberg in a new report from Entertainment Weekly:

“‘Colin Trevorrow is going write and direct the third Jurassic World story,’ executive producer Steven Spielberg exclusively tells EW. Spielberg will also return as an executive producer on the third World.”

So, he changed his mind? It’s understandable, and this kind of stuff happens in the business all the time. Things don’t go the way you think, so you end up falling back on something more reliable.

I’m not particularly invested in this franchise, so I don’t really care. Though, it’s hard not to be curious about a few things. For one, was the director of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, J.A. Bayona, ever in consideration to direct the third installment? If not, why? Were the suits not happy with it? It certainly isn’t getting close to the level of hype the first film’s marketing did. Why did Spielberg even announce this so casually? Is it even a confirmed thing?

I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Are you excited for the new Jurassic World films? Does Trevorrow coming back inspire confidence or does it make you worry? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
