One of the many, many, many projects in Warner Brothers’ DC movie slate is a Batgirl movie. Originally, it was to be written and directed by Joss Whedon, who recently completed the extensive reshoots for Justice League. But then he left when he realized he couldn’t think of a story to tell, which…props for honesty, I guess?
However, we have a new writer on board! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christina Hodson has signed on to pen the script for the Batgirl movie. Though, there is still no word on a director.
Christina Hodson doesn’t have a lot of credits to her name, but she has written two films before, Shut In, and Unforgettable, and she is the writer of the upcoming Bumblebee spin-off. I can’t speak for Shut In, but Unforgettable was trashy fun. She hasn’t done enough for anyone to really pin down her voice, but it only makes me more curious as to see what her take on this character will be.
The article also states that she is also involved in the development for Birds of Prey, which has been previously reported on, so I’m assuming that is also still a thing that may happen.
Obviously, no release date has been set yet, so we’ll be waiting for more updates as the project continues to develop.
